To celebrate International Women’s Day at Magma Aviation we are shining a spotlight on women in aviation and the huge variety of roles available in the industry. Our Celebrating Women in Aviation series holds space for the experiences of our wonderful colleagues, giving you an insight into their roles, how they got to where they are today and their advice for other women and girls considering a career in the aviation industry.
Emily Richards joined Magma Aviation as Commercial Executive nearly 2 years ago, but she had worked in logistics in the aviation industry for three years prior. It was this experience that initially attracted her to her current role, as she knew she wanted to explore the industry further.
Her first memory related to aviation was flying to visit Santa Claus (the real one, of course) aged just 5 years old. It wasn’t until much later that a career in aviation crossed her mind;
“I have always loved animals and wanted to be a vet. However, I discovered I was far too squeamish to do that, and thankfully I fell into aviation. I love when we get to operate animal charters!”
On top of animal charters, Emily also enjoys the fact she is constantly learning in her role.
“There is always something new to learn and you can never get bored. No two days – or even flights – are the same, there are always challenges to learn about and to overcome. It’s also really nice receiving positive feedback from customers after a successful flight.”
Emily would like to encourage young women to aspire to be part of the aviation industry and advises to “Try it! It may look intimidating, but if you are interested in the subject and are willing to put in the hard work, then it could be perfect for you”.
