To celebrate International Women’s Day at Magma Aviation we are shining a spotlight on women in aviation and the huge variety of roles available in the industry. Our Celebrating Women in Aviation series holds space for the experiences of our wonderful colleagues, giving you an insight into their roles, how they got to where they are today and their advice for other women and girls considering a career in the aviation industry.
Jade Bateup joined the aviation industry nearly two years ago when she began her role of Commercial Executive at Magma Aviation. Prior to this she worked for a tour operator within the travel sector. It was this role that piqued her interest in the world of cargo aviation,
“When I was in my early twenties I joined the travel industry and soon knew I wanted to progress further in aviation. When I saw the opportunity at Magma I jumped right in.”
As Commercial Executive, Jade’s daily tasks involve calling the GSA network for market information, securing bookings, managing clients and attending meetings to discuss internal information and flight performance. She particularly enjoys the people elements of her job, and the fact that she is constantly learning;
“I love interacting with my colleagues internally and with our wider GSA network. Plus, in this industry every day is a school day! I have also had some great opportunities to visit Magma freighter aircrafts across Europe.”
Jade believes that gender in the aviation sector could be more balanced if we focus on highlighting the variety of roles that women hold in the industry,
“If we advertise women in different positions across the industry we can show the world the variety and opportunities. Aviation is constantly changing and many more women are joining all the time. We need to remind the world that we can do any job role that we put our minds to”.
